Be job givers not seekers, Guv tells students

Haryana Governor Bandaru Dattatreya today said convocation was not just a ceremony but a celebration of the achievements and capabilities of students. He urged students to be job givers and not seekers.

The Governor, while addressing the 19th convocation of the National Institute of Technology, Kurukshetra, said, “For our graduates, this is the end of one chapter of life and the beginning of a new one. Convocation is not just a ceremony but a celebration of the achievements and capabilities of the students. Every year lakhs of students are getting graduated, and getting jobs for everyone is a big challenge. I am confident that the students of NIT Kurukshetra will get jobs, but I want you to be job givers and not seekers. I want you to be an entrepreneur.”

“As an institute of national importance, NIT, Kurukshetra, has a glorious legacy of academic excellence, cutting-edge research and holistic development. Over the years, this institute has nurtured some of the most talented minds of the country, who have contributed to the technological, industrial and social advancement of India,” he added.

The Governor said, “All of you should take a pledge to make India a developed nation and contribute to taking the country forward.”

He said the institute had revamped the curriculum by adopting the National Education Policy, 2020. Keeping pace with the rapidly changing industrial scenario, the institute has started many new courses. Apart from this, the institute has established a new department of architecture, he said.

Governor Dattatreya said it was important to have moral values in life, and no one could stop a person who had courage and faith. Gratitude was the foundation of humility, and humility was the hallmark of true leadership, he said.

On this occasion, former chairman of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), Dr G Satheesh Reddy, congratulated the students who received degrees in the convocation and said they should move forward with hard work and dedication.

A total of 4,388 students were awarded degrees—2,890 degrees of bachelors, 1,365 postgraduate degrees, and 133 of doctor of philosophy.

Besides the NIT students, as many as 81 students of IIIT-Sonepat received degrees during the event here.

National Institute of Technology (NIT) Kurukshetra Director BV Ramana Reddy on this occasion said degrees for the 2021-22, 2022-23, and 2023-24 sessions were awarded during the convocation. He also gave detailed information about the courses started in the institute.
