Batra flags supply of dirty water issue in Vidhan Sabha
Issues pertaining to supply of contaminated water, improper sewage and drainage system, poor upkeep of Rajiv Gandhi Sports Stadium and insanitary condition were flagged by local Congress MLA Bharat Bhushan Batra during the ongoing session of Vidhan Sabha in Chandigarh on Monday.
Lashing out at the authorities concerned for not paying much heed towards these issues of Rohtak city, Batra shared his and people’s pain before the state government stating that dirty water is being supplied in many localities for the past several months but no one is paying any heed towards it despite raising the issue being raised many times. It clearly indicates the ‘insensitive’ attitude of the authorities towards the public grievances, he added.
“Clean potable water, sanitation, electricity are the constitutional rights of every resident but Rohtak residents are being deprived of these rights,” he added.
Talking about poor upkeep of the stadium, Batra said Rajiv Gandhi Stadium was built over 112 acres in Rohtak city and crore of rupees were spent on providing national-level facilities there so that budding players did not face any problem in practicing but the BJP government failed to take care of the stadium where a considerable number of youngsters daily came to practice various sports, he added.
“Neither walking track nor hockey, football or cricket grounds are in a good condition in the stadium. Even, toilet is unclean and the lighting arrangement is inadequate. Only the SAI centre is maintained while the rest of the stadium has become a jungle. The Sports Minister should visit the stadium to take stock of the situation and to ensure basic facilities over there,” the MLA pointed out.
Batra said the honeymoon period of the BJP government was over, hence it should work to resolve the people’s grievances. “Every person needs potable water, electricity, cleanliness and a good sewerage system but the residents of Rohtak are not getting such basic facilities despite paying hefty taxes. Sewer lines always remains overflowing on the Mal Godown Road,” he said.
Batra said Urban Local Bodies Minister Vipul Goyal had assured him of resolving the issues.
