After rigorous campaigning for over a month, candidates finally got the much-needed time to unwind on Sunday, a day after the polling for the Assembly polls. They spent their day with family members, supporters and party workers.

The candidates were also seen calculating voting trends and receiving feedback from their workers about the number of votes polled in their respective booth. The workers too predicted the number of votes that were likely to be polled in favour of the candidates.

State Congress chief whip and Congress candidate from Rohtak Bharat Bhushan Batra, started his day with a morning walk along with former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda on the Maharshi Dayanand University campus and ended the day meeting locals.

“While the polling may have ended, the work never stops for a political person but today it was totally different from other days in terms of daily routine. I enjoyed a leisurely walk and relished tea with Hooda Sahib in the morning. Otherwise during the campaign, the pressure was on me to reach poll meetings and tea programmes on time every morning but today was a totally relaxed day,” Batra told The Tribune.

The two-time MLA said though he had a long meeting with supporters and workers last evening after the polling ended, another round of discussion about the elections took place today.

“We also discussed the preparations for the counting of votes, which is scheduled on Tuesday. Later, I spent quality time with family members,” said Batra, who was honoured with the ‘Best Legislator Award of Haryana’ by Vidhan Sabha in 2014.

Confident about winning the poll for the third time, Batra said people had blessed him with a lot of love during the campaign, which was a clear indication that he was going to win the election by a massive margin.

In Jhajjar, four-time MLA and former Education Minister Geeta Bhukkal woke up late today unlike previous days and spent the day receiving feedback from booth-level workers and meeting supporters at her residence in Jhajjar city.

“Yesterday was a very hectic day and I got free mid-night after taking stock of the arrangement made at the strongroom for keeping the electronic voting machines (EVMs). In the morning, many supporters and workers assembled at my house to review the polling trend and to discuss the task that are to be performed on the day of counting of votes. They shared their experience about the polling day,” said Bhukkal.

She claimed that the Congress was coming back to power with a thumping majority as people had voted against the BJP yesterday.
