Ban on crackers in Gurugram from Oct 22
The sale of firecrackers has been banned in Gurugram district from October 22 to January 31 in order to improve the air quality, District Magistrate Nishant Kumar Yadav said here today. He said only green crackers had been exempted for use in a limited way. Yadav has also banned the production, sale and bursting of barium salt firecrackers.
He said green firecrackers had been permitted only for a limited time for Diwali, Gurpurb and Christmas celebrations. He said the orders had been issued in compliance with the orders of the Supreme Court, which has observed that the bursting of crackers in large quantities could pollute the environment and pose health hazards.
“Following the government guidelines and suggestions of the Haryana Pollution Control Board, the sale and production of crackers has been banned to control air pollution,” he added.
He said the pollution control board officials will monitor the air index. The police, Municipal Corporation, fire and panchayat department officials will ensure that firecrackers were not sold and manufactured, he added.
Eco-friendly crackers permitted in Palwal
The District Magistrate has banned the sale and use of firecrackers in Palwal district. However, the order will not be applicable on eco-friendly crackers.
DC Harish Kumar Vashist said the orders would remain effective from October 22 to January 31, 2025. Instructions have also been issued to the E-commerce companies such as Flipkart, and Amazon not to accept any online orders of firecrackers.
He said there would be a complete ban on the manufacture, sale and use of all types of firecrackers except the green ones. The orders have been issued on the basis of Section 163 of the Indian Civil Defence Code, 2023, and under the provisions of the Explosive Substances Act, 1884, which prevents the storage and sale of firecrackers. Any violation would invite legal action, said the DC.
