Faridabad: Badkhal lake project to be completed by Sept 2023

The project to revive of Badkhal Lake will take another 14 months to get completed.
The project to cost Rs 79 crore, was launched in 2018 under the ongoing Smart City project.

Addressing a press conference here today, Union Minister of State for Heavy Industries and local MP Krishan Pal Gurjar said the pace of the revival project was expected to pick up after the completion of setting up of an STP plant for supplying treated water to the lake.
Spread over 42 acres, the lake has been lying dried up since 2001. He said: “The lake will be revived as a leading tourist spot in the NCR region. It is likely to be ready by September 15, 2023, as the STP is ready.”
A tender for preparing the lake bed at a cost of Rs. 192 crore has been floated and is due to be over in the next three months.
The construction of Bandh Lake and development of the Lake Marina are expected to be completed within 14 months. The construction of a parking lot will also be taken up at a cost of Rs 3.02 crore.
Claiming that the pandemic and hurdles related to water source and clearances affected the pace of the project, he said: “It will be thrown open for tourists and visitors by September next year.”
The project has missed the deadline of December 2020, December 2021 and June 2022.
The process of lake bed treatment from sand and clay imported from Bikaner, Rajasthan, has already been launched.
The lake was a famous tourist spot till 2000. It dried up due to large scale mining and lack of upkeep.
