Auto driver fakes robbery to dodge loan payments
Gurugram, September 2
In a crackdown on false complaints, the Gurugram police took action against an autorickshaw driver who fabricated a story of his vehicle being robbed to avoid paying off a loan. The autorickshaw and mobile phone were recovered from the driver’s possession.
According to the police, on Thursday, auto driver Shiv Pratap, a resident of Kannauj in Uttar Pradesh, filed a complaint stating that his CNG autorickshaw and mobile phone had been stolen by three persons who had hired his vehicle to go to Gwal Pahari on the Faridabad road. Following this complaint, an FIR was registered at the Sector 56 police station.
During the investigation, the police team questioned Pratap, and his deceit was uncovered. He admitted that he had taken the autorickshaw on loan and was overdue on the payments. To avoid repaying the loan, he concocted a false robbery story and filed the FIR.
“The auto driver confessed that he had taken the vehicle to Fatehpur Beri in Delhi, parked it there, and turned off his mobile phone. Both the autorickshaw and the mobile phone were recovered from his possession. Action has been taken against him under Section 217 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. A detailed report on the case will be submitted to the court,” said Sandeep Kumar, spokesperson for the Gurugram police.
A senior police officer noted that the auto driver could face legal consequences.
