Sirsa, August 26

The Rania Assembly seat in Sirsa is set to witness a tough battle in the upcoming elections, with the Chautala family members potentially facing each other. Arjun Chautala, son of Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) leader Abhay Chautala, is the INLD candidate for Rania. He will be up against his relative, current Cabinet Minister Ranjit Singh, who has announced his intention to contest from Rania once again.

Adding to the competition, Dhawal Kanda, son of BJP leader Gobind Kanda, is running as the candidate for the Haryana Lokhit Party (HLP), led by Gopal Kanda. Meanwhile, the Congress has not yet announced its candidates. As the elections approach, verbal exchanges have already begun.

During the inauguration of his son’s office in Rania on Monday, Abhay criticised his uncle, Ranjit Chautala, who is the former MLA from Rania.

Abhay claimed that although Ranjit sought votes in the name of former Deputy Prime Minister Chaudhary Devi Lal, he did not implement his policies for public service, leaving the people of the region feeling betrayed. He accused Ranjit of bringing the constituency to the brink of disaster.

Abhay assured voters that if the INLD-BSP alliance came to power, the leaders would revive the network of canals and waterways in the area. He recalled the tenure of former Chief Minister OP Chautala, who addressed people’s issues directly at their doorsteps through the ‘Government at your doorstep’ programme.

Criticising the current state government, Abhay highlighted that the foundation stone for a medical college in Sirsa had been laid three times, but not a single brick had been added so far. He warned that police officers harassing INLD workers would be held accountable.

Abhay said thanks to their welfare policies that had outpaced other political parties, the INLD-BSP alliance would form the next government in the state.
