Ashoka University best in Haryana, ranks 88th in country

State’s higher education institutions have once again performed poorly in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) of the Ministry of Education. The rankings were released today.

In 101-150 bracket

  • Amity University Gurugram; Guru Jambheshwar University of Science and Technology, Hisar; Kurukshetra University; and Manav Rachna International Institute of Research and Studies

In 151-200 bracket

  • Central University of Haryana; JC Bose University of Science and Technology, YMCA; and the Northcap University

In the overall rankings, like last year, no institute could enter the top 100 bracket.

Among universities, Ashoka University, Sonepat, bagged the 88th position, followed by Maharishi Markandeshwar University, Ambala, at the 91st position, and Maharshi Dayanand University at the 94th place.

While Ashoka University improved from rank 95 in 2021 to 88th this year, MDU’s rank has slipped as it was ranked 78th last year. Guru Jambheshwar University of Science and Technology, Hisar, was ranked 88th in 2021, but it doesn’t figure in the top 100 varsities of the country this year. Amity University Gurugram and Kurukshetra University also fall in the 101-150 bracket.

The institutions are ranked on the basis of parameters such as teaching, learning and resources; research and professional practices; graduation outcome; outreach and inclusivity; and perception.

Among the engineering institutes, the National Institute of Technology, Kurukshetra, slipped from the 44th rank in 2021 to the 50th rank this time. The Northcap University, Gurugram, is ranked 96th and Manav Rachna International Institute of Research & Studies, Faridabad, is at the 105th position.

“We have identified gaps. For the next six months, we will focus on improving NAAC grading and NIRF rankings,” said Additional Chief Secretary (Higher Education) Anand Mohan Sharan.

Among the management institutes, the Management Development Institute (MDI), Gurugram, slipped two places to rank 13th in the country. The Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Rohtak, improved its ranking from the 28th to the 16th this time. The Great Lakes Institute of Management, Gurugram, is ranked 52nd, while BML Munjal University, Gurugram, is ranked 54th.

Among pharmacy institutes, Maharishi Markandeshwar is ranked 24th, MDU-Rohtak is at the 30th position, while Guru Jambheshwar University of Science and Technology, Hisar, is placed 33rd. Among colleges, the IC College of Home Science, Hisar, slipped by four places to rank 42nd. Among dental institutes, the Postgraduate Institute of Dental Sciences, Rohtak, improved by one notch to rank 15th in the country.
