Around 200 residents staged a demonstration to demand the Central Bureau of Investigation’s (CBI) probe into the incident of the murder of a 20-year-old student last month by some cow vigilantes. The protesters submitted a memorandum to the district authorities on Wednesday.

Subhash Lamba, a spokesperson of the delegation that called upon the authorities to seek the demand for CBI inquiry. He said Aryan Mishra’s (the victim) parents and local residents were not satisfied with the progress made by the police in the investigation so far, and the police officials did not seem to be serious in getting the culprits punished for the gruesome murder.

The protest was organised under the banner of the Nagrik Manch, which included representatives from various associations and bodies such as the RWAs, employee organisations, labourers and farmers, who discussed the matter at a condolence meeting today.

Lamba alleged that Aryan had been murdered as a part of a conspiracy and the accused did not deserve any leniency just because the accused murdered the boy as he mistook him to be a cow smuggler.

Keeping in view the seriousness of the case and the demand raised by the family of the victim, the state government must hand over the probe to the CBI immediately, Lamba added. The manch has sought a compensation of Rs 1 crore for the kin, ban on cow protection groups, security and provision of an alternate housing facility to the family of Aryan immediately.
