In a significant setback to the ruling BJP, its senior leader and former general secretary of Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (HSGMC), Gurvinder Singh Dhamija, has joined the Congress. Dhamija, along with several prominent state leaders, made the switch in the presence of former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda in Rohtak.

Dhamija, chairman of Lohgarh Trust, expressed disappointment that former chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar’s dream project Lohgarh Khalsa Rajdhani had been neglected after his tenure. “I have joined the Congress today with my friends and well-wishers,” he said. Dhamija also highlighted his long-standing connection with Hooda, citing their shared alma mater, Sainik School Kunjpura, and 40-year cordial relationship.

Notably, Dhamija was appointed deputy chairman of Haryana Punjabi Sahitya Academy and praised Hooda’s establishment of a chair in Shaheed Baba Banda Singh Bahadur’s name at Kurukshetra University.
