Amit Shah has promised new Vidhan Sabha of Haryana: Speaker
Chandigarh, September 22
After his meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday, Assembly Speaker Gian Chand Gupta today held a press conference and said the former had given assurance for the new Vidhan Sabha building in Chandigarh.
The state has been seeking 10 acres for the new House.
“I told the Home Minister that many other states had also got new Vidhan Sabha buildings and Haryana needed a new one too,” he added.
At present, Haryana has been seeking its full 40% share in existing Vidhan Sabha building. “I complained to Shah about how Haryana was treated unfairly in the division of space as it never got full 40% share in the building.”
The Speaker said he had also raised the issue of affiliation of state colleges with Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh. He said the recent report of the high-level expert panel on governance reforms in PU talked about the affiliation of Haryana colleges.
He said students from Panchkula couldn’t get admission to technical courses in Chandigarh as 85% quota had been reserved for locals. “Only 15% seats are open for students belonging to the rest of India and those from Panchkula also had to apply under the same.” — TNS
