After giving 10 out of 11 seats to the BJP in Assembly polls, people of Ahirwal comprising Rewari, Mahendragarh and Gurugram districts, are now awaiting key posts for their MLAs in state government for the development of the region.

They claim that the Ahirwal has yet again played a key role in the formation of the state government, hence now it is the responsibility of the saffron party to give it its due share in power again.

The BJP has made clean sweep in Rewari and Gurugram districts with clinching all seven seats there while it won three out of four seats of Mahendragarh district.

“First time, the BJP formed the government in the state on its own in 2014 when Ahirwal put all 11 seats in the party’s kitty. In the next polls in 2019, the saffron party again clinched 8 and retained power. This time, Ahirwal has given 10 seats to the BJP, so we want posts of Deputy Chief Minister and two cabinet ministers (one each for three districts) for holistic development of the region,” said Ravi Yadav, a local resident.

Parveen Kumar, a businessman, said despite working as a second fiddle to the BJP, the Ahirwal region had not witnessed the kind of development people had expected. “Though Ahirwal deserves the post of Chief Minister. Since the BJP has already announced that Nayab Singh Saini will continue as CM, then the party should contemplate over awarding the post of Deputy CM to this region to keep the support of this region intact in future elections as well,” he added.

As far as claimants of Cabinet berth are concerned, Union Minister Rao Inderjit Singh’s daughter, Arti Rao, who won from Ateli (Mahendragarh), Rao Narbir Singh from Badshahpur (Gurugram), Dr Krishan Kumar from Bawal and Laxman Yadav from Rewari (both considered Rao Inderjit’s loyalists) are among the front-runners for the posts in Ahirwal, claims a BJP leader.

“In 2014, one MLA each in three districts was given the berth in the BJP government led by Manohar Lal Khattar. Rao Narbir, Vikram Yadav from Kosli and Ram Bilas Sharma were the ministers. Later, Vikram was replaced with the then Bawal MLA Dr Banwari Lal,” said Naresh Chauhan, a political analyst.

He maintained Narbir did not contest the poll in 2019 due to being denied the party ticket. On coming to power again at that time, the BJP retained Dr Banwari Lal as Cabinet minister and included Om Prakash Yadav (Narnaul) as MoS as well. When Nayab Singh Saini was elevated to the CM in March, Yadav was replaced with Nangal Choudhary MLA Dr Abhe Singh Yadav and Sohna MLA Sanjay Singh was also given the berth in the state government. This way, the BJP ensured one post of minister to each three districts of Ahirwal, he added.
