Tightening the noose around defaulting rice millers, who had failed to deliver the custom-milled rice (CMR) to the Food Corporation of India (FCI) during 2023-24, the district administration will attach the properties of seven such rice mills for allegedly causing loss of crores to the state exchequer.

Among these seven millers, three each are defaulters of the Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department and HAFED while one is of the Haryana State Warehousing Corporation. The agencies had already registered FIRs against these defaulting rice millers and their guarantors.

The agencies had prepared files to submit them to Deputy Commissioner Uttam Singh for further action to be taken by the Revenue Department, said an official.

“We have begun the process for the attachment of properties of three rice mills. We will send a file to the DC in this regard. VV Industries, PV Foods Taraori and Saraswati Agro Foods are the defaulters as they have caused loss of Rs 27.5 crore. Their properties will be attached to ensure the recovery of the amount,” said Anil Kumar, District Food Supplies Controller.

HAFED DM Amit Kumar said they would send a file for the attachment of properties to the DC in a couple of days. Bajaj Rice Mill, Gharaunda, has failed to deliver rice worth Rs 2.66 crore, while Surya Rice Mill is a defaulter of Rs 1.26 crore and Rama Industries of Rs 3.30 crore.

It is not for the first time when the administration has started the process to attach the properties of the defaulting rice millers. Earlier as well, properties of several defaulter rice mills had been attached. An official said after the attachment, the process of auctioning their properties would be carried out.
