On the final day of the Vidhan Sabha session, INLD MLA Aditya Devi Lal highlighted critical gaps in housing schemes for the poor and scheduled castes. Citing a motion of attention, he criticised both BJP and previous Congress governments for failing to provide basic amenities such as electricity, water, roads, schools, and healthcare in colonies developed on 100-square-yard plots.

Amenities missing

  • Citing a motion of attention, he criticised both BJP and previous Congress governments for failing to provide basic amenities such as electricity, water, roads, schools and healthcare in colonies developed on 100-square-yard plots.
  • “These plots, located far from villages, lack essential facilities, forcing residents to travel long distances for basic needs. The government must ensure these amenities in all such colonies,” he emphasised.

Aditya raised supplementary questions about the Mahatma Gandhi Gram Basti Yojana. He said while Rs 320 crore was allocated over the past decade and 4,573 colonies regularised, only Rs 7 lakh per colony was sanctioned. “Can Rs 7 lakh ensure paved streets, drainage, electricity, and clean drinking water? If not, why is there discrimination against these settlements? Is the government considering increasing the budget?” he asked.

He also questioned the implementation delay of the scheme launched in 2008. “Fifteen years later, why is the scheme still incomplete? Only 1,000 gram panchayats have been selected. At this pace, it will take years to cover all villages. Is there a plan to expedite this?”

Aditya further addressed the Otu Weir Channel issue in Sirsa, a crucial water source for the farmers. He pointed out that the channel, with a capacity of 6,000 cusecs, was overwhelmed annually by 45,000 cusecs of rainfall water. He urged the government to increase the channel’s capacity to ensure water reached all villages in Sirsa district.

Additionally, Aditya proposed setting up an auto market on HUDA land in Dabwali to support local businesses.
