Rs 92L okayed for Ambala Cantt bus stand repairs
Days after Haryana’s Transport, Energy and Labour Minister Anil Vij inspected the Ambala Cantonment bus stand, the state government has granted administrative approval of Rs 92.37 lakh for special repairs of the bus stand.
With the government granting the administrative approval, the repair works are expected to commence soon.
Minister Anil Vij said that administrative approval of Rs 92.37 lakh has been accorded and special repairs would be undertaken shortly.
The structure of the bus stand will be further improved to offer better facilities to passengers. Ambala Cantonment bus stand, situated on GT Road, is an important bus stand with thousands of passengers boarding and de-boarding buses daily to travel between various states. The Transport Department has addressed several highlighted issues to ensure that passengers do not face inconvenience.
Anil Vij, during the inspection, had expressed displeasure with the poor condition of toilets, sewerage, drinking water facility, sitting area, sanitation and missing boards at the bus stand. Unhappy with the situation, the minister had issued direction to suspend the station supervisor (SS) of the bus stand and had pulled up officials of the Transport Department for the poor conditions.
He was also unhappy with food stall owners setting counters beyond the permissible limits and encroaching upon the passengers’ area.
Anil Vij, who is famous for taking first-hand information on his department’s working, had also travelled on a bus from Ambala Cantonment bus stand, interacted with passengers and roadways employees to learn about the issues.
The Ambala Cantonment bus stand was upgraded in 1999 through the efforts of Anil Vij. Earlier, there used to be a small bus stand, but after the upgrade, it became one of the largest bus stands on the highway in the region.
