The cyber cell of the district police arrested eight persons in connection with six cybercrime cases resolved between September 6 and 12. A total of Rs 3.88 lakh was recovered, while an additional Rs 2.68 lakh was refunded to the victims. Funds amounting to Rs 69,916 have been frozen in the accused’s bank accounts.

According to ACP, Cyber Crime, Abhimanyu Goyat, the arrested — identified as Mohammed Zishan, Mukesh Kumar, Mayank Parashari, Vikas, Ravinder Babal, Sahil Khan, alias Tarun, Hukam Singh and Vimlesh Kumar — were arrested from various locations in Delhi and NCR. During this period, a total of 616 complaints were resolved.

Goyat advised residents to stay alert to the various tactics used by cybercriminals, which include offering fraudulent employment opportunities, promising quick profits from investments, completing tasks on Telegram, offering easy bank loans, blackmail through obscene videos and tricking people into transferring money using QR codes, UPI, or OTPs by posing as bank officials.

He further cautioned residents to beware of fake messages and links related to power, water and property tax bill payments. People should avoid sharing OTPs, personal or account details over the phone, and refrain from downloading suspicious links, as they may lead to online fraud.

Cybercrimes should be reported immediately to 1930 or at cybercrime.gov.in to help freeze the criminals’ bank accounts and assist victims in recovering their funds, he added.
