8 days on, 3-yr-old rape victim loses battle for life in Rohtak PGIMS

After battling for life for nearly eight days, a three-year-old girl, who was brutally sexually assaulted by two farm labourers, died during treatment at the Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (PGIMS) in Rohtak today.

The girl was abducted by the two accused from her one-room house in a field at a village of Fatehabad district. The girl had suffered multiple injuries in her internal organs. Dr Pushpa Dahiya, senior professor of the obstetrics and gynaecology in PGIMS, Rohtak, said the severe injuries to internal organs resulted in excessive bleeding. “A team of doctors, including gynaecologists and pediatricians, tried their best to save the life of the child”.

Tohana Sadar police station SHO Devi Lal said both the accused, Mukesh and Satish, who hailed from Bihar had been arrested. The incident occurred on the night of June 29-30, when the accused,

who were known to the victim’s father, consumed liquor in the room. They went away past midnight as the girl and her family members went to sleep.

The SHO added the duo returned sometime later and abducted the girl. They took her to an open field and sexually assaulted her. The girl gained consciousness the next morning and managed to reach home. The police was informed about the incident and the girl was rushed to the Civil Hospital in Tohana. She was further referred to the Medical College in Agroha (Hisar) and later to PGIMS, Rohtak, in view of the critical condition.

The SHO said the victim’s family belongs to UP and had been working in the field.
