7 shopkeepers challaned for using banned polythene bags
A joint team of the Municipal Corporation, Yamunanagar-Jagadhri (MCYJ), and the Haryana State Pollution Control Board (HSPCB) today conducted raids at several shops in Yamunanagar and Jagadhri and issued challans to seven shopkeepers for using banned polythene bags.
The joint team imposed a fine of Rs 26,000 on the violators.
Harjeet Singh, Chief Sanitary Inspector of the MCYJ, said that a joint team of the MCYJ and the HSPCB raided several markets of zone-I to check if shopkeepers were using banned single-use plastic items.
He said that the team raided Jaroda Gate in Jagadhri, Buria Chowk, Railway Road, area near ESI Hospital and Professor Colony.
He said during the raid, a large amount of polythene was recovered from seven shopkeepers.
He added that the team issued challans on the spot to these shopkeepers and collected a fine of about Rs 26,000 from them.
On the instructions of Municipal Commissioner Ayush Sinha, separate teams have been formed under the leadership of chief sanitary inspector Harjeet Singh in zone-I of the MCYJ and CSI Sunil Dutt in zone-II to stop the use of single-use plastic.
CSI Harjeet Singh said that from July 1, 2020, there was a complete ban on the use of 19 plastic items including polythene, plastic spoons, glasses, ice-cream sticks, plates, cups, forks, straws and trays.
