Swinging into action following the implementation of the GRAP Stage-IV restrictions from Tuesday, the traffic police issued 68 challans for norm violations on Wednesday.

Yash Pal Yadav, spokesperson of the police department, said the traffic police had launched a drive to ensure action against owners of vehicles causing pollution or those violating the GRAP norms introduced by the CAQM in the National Capital Region. He said while as many as 68 challans had been issued in the past 24 hours, the drive against the violations had also been on without a break. Yadav said the owners of around 490 vehicles had been penalised for changing lanes on the main roads and highways in the period stated above.

He said these were besides the challans issued for GRAP violations. The drive to remove the old and outdated vehicles would also be intensified in the district as these vehicles might also contribute to pollution, he said.
