6 arrested for threat calls to Haryana MLAs
Gurugram, July 31
The Haryana STF has busted a six-member gang that was allegedly issuing threats to MLAs to extort money. Four MLAs from the state had approached the police, complaining about threat calls.
They had allegedly received death threats and extortion calls from multiple phone numbers, traced to countries in West Asia. The callers had identified themselves as members of the Neeraj Bawana and Vicky Gill gangs. IGP (STF) Satheesh Balan said they were not involved with any gang, but were regular fraudsters who used the Internet “smartly”. According to Balan, the MLAs became easy target for them as information about their assets was in the public domain. After the FIRs were lodged, the STF found that some former MLAs of Punjab had also received similar threats from these numbers. Two STF teams conducted raids across Mumbai and Muzaffarpur, Bihar. Two members of the gang, Dulesh Alam and Badre Alam, were arrested from Mumbai. They were found in possession of 20 passbooks/cheque books, 14 fake SIM cards, a diary and five mobiles. From Muzaffarpur, the STF arrested four members, Amit Yadav, Saddiq Anwar, Sanoj Kumar and Kash Alam.
They were found in possession of two passbooks/cheque books, two diaries, a register, 42 SIM cards and 19 mobile phones.
