57 polling stations set up in Faridabad’s high-rises

For the first time, the district election authorities have set up 57 booths in high-rise residential societies of the city. The total number of polling stations in the district has now gone up to 1,650.

With the number of new booths being around 181 in the six segments of Faridabad, NIT, Badkhal, Tigaon, Ballabhgarh and Prithla, the main criteria for the establishment of a new booth is the number of voters exceeding the 1,500 mark in any area. This new move is likely to help increase the polling percentage, which had been around 60 per cent in the 2019 elections. The percentage had been around 65 and 64 per cent in the 2009 and 2014 elections, respectively.

A senior district official said it came as part of the measures taken in view of the increase in the number of voters in particular areas or segments after the revision of the voters’ list. He said the proposal of adding new polling stations submitted by the District Election Office had been approved by the Election Commission. The number of such booths had been at 1,469 at the time of the polling for the Lok Sabha elections earlier this year.
