548 vehicles challaned for violating pollution norms
The Regional Transport Authority (RTA) has issued challans against 548 vehicles and impounded 38 others in the past 24 hours for violating pollution norms.
The action follows a district administration directive banning the operation and entry of diesel vehicles over 10 years old and petrol-CNG vehicles over 15 years old.
Deputy Commissioner Dr Harish Vashisht said in addition to impounding several old vehicles, the RTA and traffic police issued challans to 247 vehicles for flouting pollution regulations. Furthermore, 301 vehicles found without number or registration plates were fined a total of Rs 1.5 lakh during the drive conducted on Sunday.
Dr Vashisht emphasised that the RTA’s campaign aims to curb the movement of outdated vehicles. Any such vehicles found on the roads will not only be fined but also impounded, as their operation has been banned in the NCR region.
He added that this drive would help reduce pollution and ease traffic congestion by limiting the number of vehicles on the roads.
