3 nabbed for threatening sanitation workers, demanding extortion
The Gurugram police have arrested three persons for allegedly threatening sanitation workers at a residential society and demanding extortion money in exchange for allowing them to work. A Maruti Brezza and three sticks were seized from the accused. Notably, two of the accused had previously been sentenced to life imprisonment in a murder case.
The suspects were identified as Neeraj, Rahul and Sahil.
According to the police, the team at the Dhankot police chowki received information on Friday about extortion threats against sanitation workers at Shobha Society. Acting on the tip-off, a team led by Sub-Inspector Vinod Kumar arrived at the location and found a Brezza parked nearby with its front number plate obscured with black tape.
Three young men were seen by the vehicle, reportedly threatening workers entering the society. On seeing the police, they attempted to enter the vehicle but were arrested. The police found three sticks during the search of the car.
The president of the society’s RWA approached the police on the spot, filing a complaint that certain individuals threatened car cleaners in the society and demanded money from them. Based on the complaint, an FIR was registered at the Rajendra Park police station, and all three accused were taken into custody.
“During interrogation, we learnt that Neeraj and Rahul had previously received life sentences in a murder case but are currently out on bail granted by the Punjab and Haryana High Court,” said a police spokesperson.
