Karnal: 3 more held for firing outside private hospital
A team of the CIA-1 of the Karnal police arrested three persons for allegedly providing weapons to shooters involved in a firing incident outside a private hospital in an extortion case.
The accused have been identified as Gauri Shankar, alias Gauri, a resident of Shiv Colony, Karnal, Parveen Kumar, a resident of Taprana, Karnal, and Sunny Rana of Sadar Bazar, Karnal, said the police. As per the police, the incident took place on August 7, when two miscreants opened fire outside a private hospital and an FIR was registered at the Civil Lines police station. Earlier, an extortion money of Rs 50 lakh was demanded from Dr Kamal Charaya.
Based on information, Sub-inspector Jaipal Singh arrested these accused on September 2 from Bazida Road, behind the New Grain Market. They were produced in the court on September 3 and were taken on three-day police remand.
Giving details, DSP Veer Singh said two accused were already arrested in a brief exchange of firing from Indri Road on August 9. They revealed the names of these accused. A CIA team was on the job to arrest them. An award of Rs 5,000 was declared on their heads by the police.
During the remand, the accused revealed that they provided weapons to the two accused, who were arrested earlier. The police also recovered two cars from their possession. They further revealed that they received phone calls from numbers abroad instructing them to collect the firearms placed under a transformer on the Karnal-Assandh Road and deliver these to the shooters. For this task, they were promised a payment of Rs 50,000. They were again produced in the court today and were sent to judicial custody.
