26 key roads in Karnal to be fixed under Smart City project

To address people’s outstanding grievance about the poor condition of roads in the city, Karnal Smart City Ltd (KSCL), has geared up to refurbish 26 key roads. It has transferred funds to the Karnal Municipal Corporation (KMC) and the PWD (B&R) for the repair, re-carpeting and strengthening of these roads under the Karnal Smart City project.
These roads have been chosen after an assessment of their condition. Those that have a lot of potholes and are prone to deterioration due to heavy traffic are being given priority.
A sum of Rs 27.51 crore has been transferred to the Karnal Municipal Corporation for 17 roads and Rs 5.05 crore to the PWD (B&R) for two roads, said Ramphal, General Manager, KSCL. Besides, administrative approval has been given for seven other road projects by the board of directors, he added.
As per the authorities, their focus will be on the repair of potholes that have been a concern for residents and commuters, ensuring smoother and safer commuting for all.
These roads include the Meerut road till Saheed Udham Singh Chowk via the community centre at Sector 9, the outer bypass from the Meerut road to the NH-44 behind Sectors 4, 5 and Transport Nagar, the dividing road of Sector 4 and 5, 12-m internal roads in Sector 32, road from Uttam Nagar to Karan Vihar, the main road from near Partap Public School to the old police post building in Sector 6, the road from the convent school to Krishna Kripa Mandir towards Atal Park, Sector 8, among others, funds for which have been transferred, said an official.
Funds have also been transferred for a road between Sector 8 Parts I and II, roads in ward-12, including the road between Karnal Club and Kalpana Chawla Government Medical College, and the road between Dyal Singh College turn and Guru Nanak School, the official added.
“We have transferred funds to the KMC and the PWD (B&R) for repairing, strengthening and re-carpeting these roads. The tender process for these roads is underway and work is likely to start soon. These roads will be free of potholes soon,” said Anish Yadav, Deputy Commissioner-cum-CEO, KSCL.
Residents also expressed happiness about the project, stating, “The repair of these roads will not only provide a smoother commute but also enhance the beauty of the city,” said Ashish Popli, a local resident.
The repair of these key roads will ease traffic flow and contribute to the overall development of the city, said Gaurv Nagpal, a local resident. He asked the authorities to ensure quality work, so that these roads could last for a long time.
