215 pollution-related challans issued in 3 days
The Municipal Corporation authorities have issued over 215 challans against offenders in the ongoing drive to curb pollution and disposal of waste in an unauthorised manner in the city in the past three days.
An official of the Municipal Corporation Faridabad (MCF) said while an average of over 50 challans were being issued daily, he said several teams had been deployed for conducting inspection and physical checking of violations at the ground level. He said while maximum number of challans were related to improper disposal of garbage, the incidents of burning of waste in the open, running dairies within civic limits, usage of polythene and plastic items, open defecation and operation of meat shops in an illegal manner had also been covered under the drive.
With as many as 50 challans issued on Monday, a total of 55 and 110 challans were issued on Tuesday and Wednesday respectively in various zones of NIT, Badkhal, Old Faridabad and Ballabhgarh in the city. The challan amount may range between Rs 500 and Rs 25,000 for offences regarding the use or sale of polythene bags. A minimum fine of Rs 5,000 was being imposed on violations regarding improper disposal of garbage or burning of waste in the open, said an official. The drive will be carried on indefinitely, it is claimed.
