Faridabad, August 2
The Municipal Corporation Faridabad (MCF) authorities have sealed more than 20 basement units functional illegally in the city.
A spokesperson of the civic body said the units which were sealed in the past two days were of commercial nature and had been functional without following the norms set by the state government. He said the spots that were sealed include coaching and training centres, restaurants and offices of commercial and industrial nature which did not have their building plan sanctioned from the department concerned and had not been following the norms connected with fire-fighting arrangements required for such places. He said the drive was launched after the recent incident in New Delhi, where three students of a coaching centre had drowned after rainwater flooded the basement.
Jitender Kumar Garg, Joint Commissioner, MCF, said though the number of illegal or unauthorised basements in the city were yet to be surveyed, he said the officials were asked to seal the basements which were constructed or operational in an unauthorised manner. He said the drive would be on indefinitely. Notices were also being served against such places, it was claimed.
