2-day Haryana History Congress concludes at Hisar college
The 9th session of the two-day Haryana History Congress, organised under the aegis of the History Department at Dayanand College, concluded with thought-provoking discussions and scholarly presentations.
During the valedictory session, chief guest Professor Narayan Singh Rao, from the History Department of Central University, Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh, underlined the importance of rigorous historical research to unveil new perspectives and facts about Haryana’s past.
Professor Rao also shed light on the lesser-known aspects of Haryanvi culture and the profound philosophy of life embedded within it. The session’s special guest, Dr Banani Bhattacharya, Deputy Director of the Haryana Archaeology and Museum Department, informed the audience about the department’s ongoing efforts to protect and explore Haryana’s historical legacy. She revealed that 78 ancient sites had been identified and were being notified as protected areas of historical significance. “Notifications have already been issued for 44 new sites slated for future excavation, while eight additional sites are in the final stages of the notification process,” she said.
Dr Vikramjit Singh, Principal of Dayanand College, extended a warm welcome to the distinguished guests and emphasised the significant role of the Haryana History Congress in safeguarding the region’s cultural heritage. He said that the congress provided a unique platform for students to gain profound insights into Haryana’s glorious history, spanning ancient, mediaeval, and modern eras, thanks to the collective expertise of renowned scholars. The convention featured the presentation of research papers by scholars from 14 Indian states and South Korea, enriching the academic discourse with diverse perspectives. The closing ceremony was marked by vibrant cultural programmes performed by college students, showcasing the rich and diverse traditions of Haryana. Prominent dignitaries, including Dr Yashbir Singh, President of the Haryana History Congress; Dr Mahender Singh Bagi, Vice President; and esteemed faculty members such as Dr Mahender Singh and Dr Suruchi Sharma, graced the event.
The convention also witnessed the active participation of professors and researchers from universities and colleges across the nation. The Ninth Haryana History Congress concluded on a high note, reaffirming the significance of preserving Haryana’s historical and cultural heritage while fostering intellectual exploration and dialogue. The event brought together eminent historians, researchers, and academicians to rummage into the rich historical and cultural heritage of Haryana, emphasising the need to uncover and preserve its multifaceted legacy through meticulous research.
