18,998 MT bajra procured in Jhajjar mandis

The government agencies — Hafed and Haryana State Warehouse Corporation (HSWC)— have so far procured a total 18,998 metric tonnes bajra from 6,365 farmers while a total 23,693 metric tonnes of bajra has arrived in various grain markets of the districts.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Shakti Singh said both agencies were purchasing the bajra at the minimum support price (MSP) of Rs 2,625 per quintal in Badli, Bahadurgarh, Beri, Dhakla, Majra D, Matanhail and the Patoda grain market.

“Help desks have been set up in the grain markets for the convenience of farmers while employees of revenue, agriculture, marketing board and other departments have been deputed there to resolve the farmers’ grievances on the spot. So far, a total 7877 MT bajra has been procured in Jhajjar by the HSWC while 276 MT in Badli, 98 MT in Bahadurgarh, 698 MT in Beri, 2,705 MT in Dhakla and 7,345 MT in Matanhail have been bought by the Hafed,” he added.

The DC said the officials associated with the procurement process and mandi management had been instructed that the farmers should not face any problem in selling the crop. The police had also been deployed for security arrangements at the mandis. Similarly, special arrangements had been made for drinking water, taking rest, electricity supply, timely payment of produce and lifting of bajra, he claimed.

DFSC Ashok Sharma said as per the government’s guidelines, all necessary arrangements had been made to ensure basic facilities for the farmers in the grain markets. “Apart from the government procurement, bajra is also being purchased by the commission agents. As much as 11,924 MT bajra has been lifted while the process is underway for lifting other procured produce,” he added.
