1,700 inmates of Karnal jail chant ‘shalokas’ of Bhagavad Gita
A programme on Shrimad Bhagvad Gita was organised in Karnal jail, where nearly 1,700 inmates and officials of the jail chanted ‘shalokas’ of Bhagavad Gita. Gita Manishi Swami Gyanananad Maharaj of ‘Krishna Kripa Dham’ and Jail Minister Arvind Sharma exhorted the inmates to follow the path shown by Shrimad Bhagvad Gita.
Swami Gyananand delivered the teachings of Bhagavad Gita to the inmates, offering them guidelines to live a positive life and overcome the cycle of resentment.
“The shlokas of the Gita were shared here to inspire the inmates for changing their ways and adopt peaceful and positive lives,” said Swami Gyananand. The recitations were of deep interest for the inmates.
On being asked about the opening of gaushalas in jails, Swami Gyananand said gaushala in Karnal jail was ready and would soon open, providing a stable home for stray cattle and allowing inmates to care for them and benefit from the milk.
Gyananand condemned the recent attacks on Hindu temples by pro-Khalistan supporters in Canada, calling them “highly condemnable.” He stressed the importance of maintaining communal harmony and avoiding such negative influences.
Sharma said, “Following the vision of Swami Gyananad, an event was organised in Karnal jail, allowing the inmates to receive and reflect on the timeless wisdom of Bhagavad Gita.”
He highlighted the global significance of Bhagavad Gita and the sacred grounds of Kurukshetra, where Lord Krishna imparted the teachings of Gita to Arjun. “The principles of Mahabharata resonate here and visitors can feel its essence in Kurukshetra’s Mahabharata Circuit, which we are actively promoting worldwide,” Sharma said, emphasising the state’s tourism efforts.
Sharma also highlighted the rehabilitation efforts of the inmates, saying, “These people, despite past mistakes, are part of society. It is our role to reintegrate them positively, as each person represents a divine form.”
Reflecting on the past decade of governance, Sharma said significant reforms had been implemented in the prison system. “Today, even the underprivileged were provided legal aid, ensuring access to lawyers, unlike in the past,” he explained. Discussing further recruitment in the Jail Department, he assured that the government was focused on ongoing improvements.
The minister also expressed gratitude to the people of Haryana for supporting the government’s vision under the leadership of CM Nayab Singh. Regarding the availability of DAP fertiliser, Sharma emphasised the government’s commitment to ensuring no shortage, despite its imported nature.
