17 tippers ferrying illegal sand impounded in Yamunanagar

The police have impounded 17 tippers and trailers involved in illegal transportation of mining minerals in Yamunanagar district.

The Mines and Geology Department has also imposed a fine of Rs 72.42 lakh on owners of the impounded vehicles.

This action was taken on the directions of Superintendent of Police Rajiv Deswal, who had formed special teams to keep tabs on mining mafia in the district.

Satbir Singh Gill, a police spokesperson, said the special teams had impounded 17 vehicles for transporting mining minerals illegally.

He said a team led by Sub-Inspector Sanjeev Kumar inspected vehicles near district jail yesterday and caught 10 vehicles.

He added another team led by Sadar SHO Dalbir Singh laid a naka near Kail village on the Jagadhri bypass and caught six vehicles. He said third team led by Gurdayal Singh, in-charge, Buria gate police post, caught one vehicle.

“A special drive is being carried out to put a ban on illegal mining. Stern action is being taken against persons involved in illegal mining. This action will continue in future too,” said Deswal.

Rohit Singh Rana, Inspector, Mines and Geology Department, Yamunanagar, said the vehicles ferrying illegal sand had been impounded.

He said after imposing penalty, the custody of the vehicles had been given to the Haryana State Enforcement Bureau.

“If owners of these impounded vehicles fail to deposit fine within a month, we will ask the Haryana State Enforcement Bureau to register an FIR against them,” said Rana.
