14 years on, vet varsity operates from Haryana Agricultural University campus
Lala Lajpat Rai University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (LUVAS), which was set up 14 years ago the same day (on December 1), is yet to take over its new campus located on the Hisar-Chandigarh highway, on the outskirts of Hisar town.
Though important buildings on the university campus, including the Vice-Chancellor secretariat-cum administrative block and College of Dairy Sciences and Technology, have been completed, the work on separate hostels for boys and girls, five residential blocks with about 100 flats, besides the animal farm is almost over, sources said. It took about Rs 248.15 crore in completing these projects. While the work on the Rs 95.15-crore animal farm was underway, they added.
Staff unwilling to shift to new campus
* Employees of Lala Lajpat Rai University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (LUVAS) are unwilling to shift to the new campus as many important buildings have incomplete facilities, especially sewerage and potable water supply
* The existing LUVAS campus is located within the HAU campus, which is located in the interior of Hisar town, and the new campus is at the distance of about 10 km from the town on the Hisar-Chandigarh highway
Then Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar had even inaugurated the Vice-Chancellor secretariat-cum-administrative block in January this year. The new campus is located on 1,125 acres on the Hisar-Chandigarh highway.
The sources informed that the university employees are unwilling to shift to the new campus as many important buildings have incomplete facilities, especially proper sewerage system and potable water supply, besides the distance of about 10 km from Hisar town. The existing LUVAS campus is located within the HAU campus, which is located in the interior of Hisar town.
LUVAS spokesperson Dr Dinesh Mittal said he had no information about the new stage of the construction at the new site. “I am not aware of it. I have no information when the university authorities are likely to start shifting to the new site,” he said.
LUVAS was carved out of the Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University (HAU) by bifurcating the veterinary and animal sciences courses with the objective to impart education in different branches of veterinary, animal sciences, fishery sciences and allied science.
A teaching faculty member informed that there is a problem of sewerage and potable water supply on the new campus, which is the reason that the employees were not willing to shift to the new campus.
The university spokesperson said the university would celebrate the 15th Foundation Day on December 2 on the old campus located in HAU, which was bifurcated with the formula of 80: 20 when LUVAS was carved out of it in 2010. The College of Veterinary Sciences which was earlier part of HAU was included in the LUVAS and its related infrastructure too was given to the new university. Now, LUVAS offers various courses in its two colleges -- the College of Veterinary Sciences and the College of Dairy Sciences and Technology.
