As many as 100 candidates were selected for the programme out of over 9,000 applicants. The participants have different academic qualifications ranging from law to engineering to mass communication. The flagship event of the district police was started in 2013 with 22 interns.

The month-long programme is a mix of practical learning through field exposure, project work and classroom/interactive sessions with subject and industry experts. The rising use of technology in conventional crime as well as the proliferation of cyber crime has necessitated that the police invest in capacity building as well as increasing public awareness.
