Contractor found negligent
The incident occurred on July 31 near the IFFCO Metro station, Gurugram, after heavy rain and strong winds uprooted a tree that struck a live high-tension power cable, causing it to fall onto a rain-soaked footpath. Following probes by both the power department and MC, the contractor responsible for maintaining streetlights along the road was found negligent.
MCG Chief Accounts Officer Vijay Kumar identified the victims as Waseem (55) from Sangam Vihar, Delhi; Devinder Vajpayee (34) from Unnao, Uttar Pradesh; and Jaipal Yadav (34) from Mahendragarh, Haryana.
Following investigations by both the power department and MC, the contractor responsible for maintaining streetlights along the road was found negligent. The Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN) inquiry revealed that the contractor had improperly installed an overhead power supply for streetlights, rather than an underground connection, which contributed to the fatal accident. An FIR was filed against the contractor in light of these findings.
