Haryana CM approves Rs 249-crore infrastructure development projects for Gurugram
Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, during a high-powered purchase committee meeting on Tuesday, approved infrastructure development projects and contracts worth Rs 249.77 crore for the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA).
A major allocation of Rs 166 crore has been set aside for the repair and strengthening of key roads here. The projects cover 64 km of master sector roads and 17.2 km of service roads. Some of the key works include repairs to roads dividing sectors 84/88, 85/89, 86/90 and 87/90, along with other critical roads, including those in sectors 15, 23, 30 and 81; strengthening and repairing service roads along major roads, such as those between sectors 58 to 67; and many others across the city.
These efforts are designed to improve connectivity, reduce traffic congestion, and enhance road safety.
To strengthen the city’s public transport system, the GMDA has approved three projects worth Rs 50.77 crore. These include: a new bus depot for electric buses at Sector 48 to promote eco-friendly transport options; the construction of 154 new bus shelters across key areas of Gurugram, from Southern Peripheral Road to Northern Peripheral Road, as well as along the Dwarka Expressway.
These improvements aim to ensure that the city’s public transport infrastructure can meet future demands.
In a bid to improve pedestrian safety, GMDA has approved the construction of four new foot-over bridges (FOBs) for Rs 16 crore. These would be built in high-traffic areas — Sector 14 Market, near Raheja Mall on Sohna Road, CD Chowk on Sohna Road and Sheetla Mata Road.
These FOBs would help reduce pedestrian accidents and provide safer crossings in these busy locations.
A key project worth Rs 16.40 crore has been approved for the installation of a centralised integrated water management system (CIWMS) on the city’s 1300 mm master water supply pipeline. The system would be implemented from the WTP Basai to several sectors, including 16, 17, 18, 19 and others.
This project would help ensure the equitable distribution of potable water throughout the city, with real-time monitoring of water usage and the identification of illegal connections. The system aims to improve efficiency, reduce water loss and ensure a consistent water supply for all residents.
These projects reflect the state government’s commitment to improving Gurugram’s infrastructure. From enhancing roads and public transport to promoting pedestrian safety and ensuring efficient water management, the initiatives aim to create a more sustainable, liveable and connected city for its residents.
