Paonta Sahib is grappling with significant traffic issues due to haphazard parking on the link road connecting Shamsherpur with the local vegetable market.
The problem has been causing continuous disruptions for vehicles going to and from Shamsherpur via the National Highway (NH) 07 to the vegetable market.
Traders have raised the issue with the chairman of the Sirmaur Mandi Committee, seeking a solution to the problem of vehicles being parked in no-parking zones.
Residents and traders of Paonta Sahib have pointed out that the link road from the NH 07 to the vegetable market in Shamsherpur often becomes congested due to the poorly parked small vehicles. This situation leads to frequent traffic jams, especially in the mornings when the movement of vehicles starts as early as 5 am. Small retailers and street vendors who come to buy fruits and vegetables are primarily affected. The problem becomes acute after 10 am when most small vehicles are parked haphazardly along the no-parking zone on this already narrow link road. At times, vehicles are parked on both sides of the road, leaving minimal space for their movement and resulting in severe traffic congestion.
Traders said the issue was raised at a meeting with the chairman of the Sirmaur Mandi Committee. The traders have sought an immediate solution to the problem.
Sita Ram Sharma, chairman of the Agricultural Produce Market Committee (APMC) Sirmaur, stated that the traders had brought the issue of traffic jams on the link road to his attention. He agreed that improper parking was causing significant difficulties for vehicles heading towards the vegetable market. Sharma said discussions with the police and the administration would be initiated to find a concrete resolution to the problem.
