Hamirpur panchayat to honour families for not serving liquor in marriages

Lamblu gram panchayat in Hamirpur district has decided to honour families which will refrain from serving liquor and other intoxicants during marriages. Gram panchayat pradhan Kartar Singh Chauhan announced the decision during a meeting of the panchayat yesterday.

Chauhan said today that a campaign was being run to make Lamblu gram panchayat drug free. He expressed his gratitude towards women for helping him in the drive. He added that most of the families in the panchayat had completely stopped using tobacco products and intoxicants in marriage ceremonies.

He said, “In future, I will honour families that do not serve intoxicants in marriage ceremonies, especially of women.”

The action plan for 2025-26 was discussed in the meeting and the villagers raised the issues of stray and wild animals and increased rate of tractors for sowing purpose. The villagers said that crops sown on productive land were almost on the verge of maturing.

A proposal was unanimously passed ting that the cutting of trees should be done only after taking the panchayat’s permission.

Chauhan said it had been observed that contractors were getting prohibited species, even medicinal plants Harad, Behada, Amla and fruit-bearing plants cut by ‘chiranis’ (wood cutter). He requested the Forest Department to issue guidelines to the contractors to ensure that trees were not cut without the panchayat’s permission.

The panchayat also decided that the families, which had given their residential and commercial buildings on rent, should pay 20 per cent tax and the tenants should be monitored and drug abuse should be curbed.

Punish smokers

This gram panchayat, known for its public welfare works, had earlier decided to punish those who smoke or drink.
