Had Cong passed Lokpal Bill, AAP wouldn’t have been formed: Delhi ex-CM
Former Delhi Chief Minister and AAP convener Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday said that had the Congress government passed the Lokpal Bill, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) would not have been formed.
Speaking at the launch of a book, Kejriwal said, “The sole demand of the Anna movement was to pass the Lokpal Bill. Had the Congress government passed the Bill, AAP would not have been formed. They did not pass the Bill and challenged us to contest elections and pass the Bill. This was the time we decided to form the party.”
Kejriwal said that AAP addressed the issues of people which they deal with every day. He said that the AAP was founded by people who were not from political families.
“During the tenure of former Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dixit, a narrative at state and national levels on privatising schools was on. A narrative was built that the government cannot run schools. We proved that the government can run schools and hospitals efficiently,” Kejriwal said.
The former Delhi CM claimed that Delhi is the only region which has round-the-clock electricity supply.
Kejriwal said that BJP’s polarisation has ended in Delhi. He claimed that AAP would form the government in Delhi for the fourth time.
“Only 62 flyovers were constructed in Delhi after independence. This was before our government came to power. In the last 10 years, we have built 38 new flyovers. We have constructed 10,000 km of road network in Delhi. Four lakh streetlights and three lakh CCTV cameras were installed in our tenure,” Kejriwal claimed.
He said the Delhi model of governance could be replicated across the nation. “Rs 1,80,000 crore will be the cost incurred if electricity supply is made free across the country. There are 10 lakh government schools in India and 18 crore students are studying. These schools will be improved if the government spends Rs 5 lakh crore. At a cost of Rs 5 lakh crore, all the government hospitals in the country will get improved,” Kejriwal said.
