Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla conferred degrees and medals to students of Himachal Pradesh Technical University at the National Institute of Technology auditorium at a convocation of the university here today. He awarded 110 medals and 259 degrees to the students on the occasion, including 59 gold medals and 51 silver medals. Notably, out of the 110 medals, 73 medals were bagged by women and 37 by men students, while out of 259 degrees, 162 women and 97 men were awarded degrees at the convocation.

Shukla exhorted students to make the best use of schemes started for entrepreneurs by the Centre and state governments to promote self-employment. Speaking on the occasion, Governor said the youth needed to think differently and take challenges that would propel them towards bigger success. He said, “No business is good or bad, the need is to be a good person”. The Governor said their knowledge should reflect in their actions. He said that the significance of education would help in moving ahead in life by turning challenges into opportunities. He said in the 21st century, knowledge had emerged as the most important capital in the world market. He added, “Today immense opportunities are available for a person who always improves his knowledge, skills and intelligence with zeal and zest,” he said.

Calling ‘Viksit Bharat’ a unique movement in the history of the country, Prof Vinod Kumar Paul,Member, NITI Ayog, said the Central Government was making efforts to provide education and skill development to the youth through Atal Training School Labs and Pradhan Mantri Vidya Laxmi Yojana.

Technical Education Minister Rajesh Dharmani said the university had prepared outgoing students well to face the future challenges. “It is not only about getting a degree, it is more than that. The institute has made you competent to provide a solution to the problems of the society,” said Dharmani.

Earlier, Vice-Chancellor of HPTU Shashi Kumar Dhiman read out the annual report of the university.
