Gurugram resident gets life term for raping minor
The District and Sessions Court of Gurugram has sentenced a 46-year old man to life imprisonment after having been found guilty of raping a 17-year-old girl in 2018 and issuing threats to kill her.
Based on a written complaint and medical check-up of the victim, a criminal case under Sections 6 and 8 of the POCSO Act, 2012, and Section 506 of the IPC was registered.
Subsequently, the accused Yogendra Kumar, a resident of Sector 39, Gurugram, was arrested. Prima facie, the allegations were found true against him by the investigating team of the police. Accordingly, a case file was prepared and presented before the court for trial. The charges were framed against him in due course of trial.
On Thursday, Additional District and Sessions Judge Ashwani Kumar held Yogendra guilty of committing the crime. The court convicted him and sentenced him to life imprisonment under Section 6 of the POCSO Act 2012. A fine of Rs 50,000 was also imposed on him by the court.
Under Section 8 of the POCSO Act, he was sentenced to three years in jail along with a fine of Rs 10,000 on him.
He was also convicted under Section 506 of the IPC for six months in jail along with a fine of Rs 5,000 on him. In total, he will have to face life imprisonment.
