Two months after Prime Minister Narendra Modi introduced the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban (PMAY-U) 2.0, the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram today decided to launch the scheme in Gurugram city.

MCG Commissioner Ashok Kumar Garg said the civic body would soon begin inviting online applications from the homeless people.

He said PMAY-U 2.0 scheme will be attached with the affordable housing scheme, in which a section of the flats constructed by private builders will be reserved and allocated to the homeless in Gurugram city.

And those who have plots of 120 sq m or less will also be provided an interest subsidy benefit on home loan for up to Rs 1.8 lakh. This subsidy will also be applicable on allotment of flats.

Garg said middle-class families earning less than Rs 9 lakh per year would also be able to apply under this scheme. For this, a letter has been sent by the Central Government to all the Municipal Corporations of the state, he added.

Those who do not have a permanent house anywhere in the country will be eligible to buy or construct a house under this scheme, he said, adding that the applications would be invited through an online portal. It is mandatory that the Aadhaar card of the applicant must be linked to his/her mobile phone number.

Garg said this benefit will be available through four components — through Beneficiary Based Construction, eligible families belonging to EWS categories will be provided land rights i.e. patta if they do not have their own land; under the Affordable Housing in Partnership (AHP), houses built for EWS by public and private institutions will be allotted; under the Affordable Rental Housing scheme, accommodation will be provided to urban migrants, working women, industrial workers, homeless, destitute, students and others; and under the Interest Subsidy Scheme, a subsidy benefit on home loan will be provided up to Rs 1.8 lakh.
