Gurugram MC removes kiosks from Sec 17, 22 roads

The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) continued its anti-encroachment drive in the markets of Sector 17 and along the main roads of Sector 22 on Wednesday. The drive, led by Chief Medical Officer Dr Ashish Singla, focused on freeing the city’s roads, footpaths and market areas from encroachments. According to Dr Singla, the MCG is consistently working to clear these areas.

During the operation, temporary encroachments such as street vendors, pavement stalls, kiosks, boards and sheds were removed. The team also confiscated the belongings of those violating the rules and issued warnings to refrain from future encroachments, with the possibility of legal action for repeat offenders.

MCG Commissioner Dr Narhari Singh Banger emphasised that encroachments create issues for the public, including drivers and market visitors, and should not be allowed in the interest of the community. He noted that road encroachments narrow the streets, leading to traffic congestion, while footpath encroachments force pedestrians to walk on the road, increasing the risk of accidents.

Dr Banger also pointed out that encroachments in market areas deter customers and harm business for traders, as modern shoppers prefer places free of obstruction. He reiterated the MCG’s zero-tolerance policy towards encroachments and vowed that actions would be taken consistently to address all types of violations.
