Gurugram MC eyeing Rs 100 crore revenue from ads in current fiscal year
Aiming to earn Rs 100 crore revenue from the advertisements by the end of this financial year, the Municipal Corporation, Gurugram (MCG), is positioning itself to harness the potential of outdoor advertising as a key revenue source.
MCG Assistant Executive Engineer (Advertisements) Prem Kumar said the civic body had already earned Rs 70 crore from advertisements till the end of November in this financial year.
Last year, the total revenue collection from advertisements was Rs 54.16 crore. In the financial year 2022-2023, the MCG earned a revenue of Rs 26.82 crore; in 2021-2022, it was Rs 14.66 crore while in the financial year 2019-2020, a revenue of Rs 15.45 crore was collected by the civic body.
He said strict enforcement of advertisement regulations and penalties on illegal advertisers had helped a lot to increase the revenue. “We recovered Rs 2.44 crore in the form of fines from illegal advertisements up to September this year, which is a significant increase from the Rs 15.95 lakh collected in 2023,” he said.
He said the MCG had detected over 30 cases of unauthorised advertisements and removed more than 300 illegal unipoles in this year. Besides this, thousands of unauthorised political advertisements were removed from the public places in the city by the MCG and various other government departments during the model code of conduct (MCC) of the Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha elections held this year.
The MCG has also issued notices to at least 50 advertisers, who had failed to pay advertising fees, leading to significant revenue losses for the civic body.
The efforts were on to recover the dues from them, the MC official added.
Many agencies who were given the permission to display advertisements on the properties owned by the MCG had also not paid advertisement fee to the civic body. The legal process to recover the advertisement fee, along with a penalty of 15 per cent, was being initiated against them.
They will also be blacklisted in accordance with the provisions of the Haryana Municipal Corporation Advertisement Bylaws, 2022, which mandates blacklisting of defaulters.
