Chandigarh, July 27

UT Administrator and Punjab Governor Banwarilal Purohit inaugurated the 2nd Gully Cricket Tournament at the Sector 16 Cricket Stadium. As many as 3,600 boys and girls between 14 and 18 years of age are representing 300 teams in this 17-day tournament being organised by the UT Cricket Association (UTCA) in collaboration with the Chandigarh Police.

In his address, UTCA president Sanjay Tandon termed the second edition of the tournament as his ‘promise’ and ‘maintaining the tradition intact’. The organisers will register their tournament in the Asia Book of Records with 300 teams against 204 teams played in the last edition.

The tournament will be played in 10 overs a side format. The event will be held at nine grounds and the final will be played at PCA Stadium in Mohali on August 11.

A total of 27 matches were played on the opening day of the meet. In the boy’s matches, Team No. 18 beat Team No. 17 by nine wickets, Team No. 30 recorded an 89-run win over Team No. 29, Team No. 13 got the better of Team No. 14 by 23 runs, Team No. 6 ousted Team No 5 by nine runs and Team No. 19 outplayed Team No. 20 by eight wickets.

Team No. 44 defeated Team No. 43 by seven wickets, Team No. 38 posted a 42-run win over Team No. 37, Team No. 32 trounced Team No. 31 by seven wickets, Team No. 49 logged a six-wicket win over Team No. 50, Team No. 25 triumphed over Team No. 26 by 86 runs, Team No. 8 logged a 31-run victory over Team No. 7 and Team No 36 got the better of Team No. 35 by 10 wickets.

Team number 23, 41, 47, 11, 4, 2, 46, 10, 39, 15, 34, 28 and 22 also logged victory. In the girls’ category, Team No. 9 defeated Team No. 8 by 28 runs and Team No. 11 ousted Team No. 10 by nine wickets.
