‘Green Sparrows’: NGO to rope in more women from rural areas
Jalandhar, June 15
With an aim to provide employment opportunities to young women and at the same time protecting the environment, a programme called “Green Sparrows” was started by NGO Sardar Ajit Singh Foundation Society in the city last year. Under the programme, over 20 women joined hands and have been learning to make creative things using old clothes.
The motive of the NGO is to rope in more women from villages, which don’t have any facilities and are devoid of any opportunity to earn for themselves. Ramanpreet Kaur, NGO president
NGO president Ramanpreet Kaur said another point that she always had in her mind was not to use plastics at all. Now, the motive of the NGO is to rope in more women from villages, which don’t have any facilities and are devoid of any opportunity to earn for themselves. “From the next week, we will visit villages to empower the women living in rural areas,” she said.
The project was started in collaboration with the Jalandhar Municipal Corporation under the National Urban Livelihood Mission.
Various exhibitions are held from time to time where items made by women and girls are displayed and tehey are helped in selling those items.
Laxmi, one of the girls who just joined the project, said she had never thought that one could make so many things using an old cloth. “This is something I have learnt here,” she shared.
