Green leaf rating of hotels begins in Solan
In a move aimed at promoting hygiene and proper sanitary conditions in hospitality units, the Swachhata Green Leaf Rating (SGLR) of hotels is being undertaken in Solan district. Solan Additional Deputy Commissioner Ajay Yadav said that block development officers of Chail and Dharampur had begun the initiative as a large number of hospitality units falling in these two blocks. It is a government rating system, which assesses the hygiene and sanitation practices in hotels, resorts and homestays in India.
Assessment of sanitation practices
It is a government rating system, which assesses the hygiene and sanitation practices in hotels, resorts and homestays in India.
Though voluntary, this system encourages hospitality units to participate by educating them on the benefits of sanitation and hygiene while taking into consideration compliance with safe sanitation practices and is divided into three categories.
A hospitality unit is granted a rating of leaves for having the best cleanliness, waste management and sustainability practices followed by three leaves and one leaf.
Based on the guidelines, the identified entities will carry out internal audit and take necessary steps to become ‘safely managed sanitation’ compliant by developing infrastructure and achieving the desired sanitary parameters. They will then evaluate their sanitation status and communicate the rating in the current certification status (CCS format) to the district committee with supporting evidence, which will be verified by a sub-committee comprising SDM and officials from the Health Department and state pollution control board. They will be issued a certification based on their performance. The certification can be utilised for branding.
