Govt orders DCs to clear scrap, optimise office space

In a letter dated November 20, Secretary (AR) C Palrasu directed all Deputy Commissioners (DCs) and Superintendents of Police (SPs) in the state to replicate the scrap removal initiative successfully implemented by the Hamirpur Deputy Commissioner. The directive follows a presentation made during a virtual meeting of DCs and SPs on November 8, chaired by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, who praised the Hamirpur DC’s efforts.

The government emphasised removing old records and scrap materials to optimise office space. Heads of departments across the state have also been instructed to implement the procedure and report compliance promptly.

Hamirpur DC’s initiative generated Rs 5.76 lakh by selling scrap, freeing up 20 rooms in the office complex. This action reduced congestion and facilitated the relocation of subordinate offices to more spacious locations. Additionally, tree pruning transformed neglected areas into sunny, usable spaces.

DC Amarjit Singh highlighted plans to utilize the freed space for improved facilities. A canteen will be established to provide seating and dining options for visitors. Furthermore, an open badminton court and gym are in development to enhance the complex’s amenities.

This state-wide directive aims to promote better space management, enhance office environments, and generate additional revenue through resource optimisation.
