Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur today criticised the state government, claiming that "total anarchy" reigns under the Congress regime, with the recent “samosa-cake” incident reflecting poorly on governance. In a statement, Thakur asserted that the administration is focusing on trivial matters while neglecting serious issues.

Disgraceful, laughable

The situation in the state is deteriorating day by day. The consumption of samosas and cake, initially brought for the CM by some police personnel, has been labelled as anti-government. This is both disgraceful and laughable. — Jai Ram Thakur, Former CM

“The situation in the state is deteriorating day by day. The consumption of samosas and cake, initially brought for the Chief Minister by some police personnel, has been labelled as anti-government. This is both disgraceful and laughable,” he said. “An inquiry is being conducted to determine how this happened. Nothing could be more distasteful and shameful,” he added.

Thakur accused the police and the government of ignoring pressing matters such as corruption involving politicians and officials. “The government has the resources to investigate police staff over a samosa case, but no time to address serious corruption issues,” he said.

He cited other recent government decisions as evidence of instability. “The government’s pattern of making and reversing decisions is troubling. We’ve seen it with the toilet tax, increased fares on government buses and the discontinuation of vacant positions. The government is on weak footing,” he said.

Thakur also highlighted an incident involving a woman police officer who was reportedly removed from her post unexpectedly, despite a strong performance record. “Himachal has always been known for making thoughtful decisions, but today it is becoming a laughing stock due to the government’s repeated flip-flopping on key issues,” he stated.
