Former Chief Minister and Leader of the Opposition Jai Ram Thakur today accused Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu of prioritising the survival of his government and the six former Chief Parliamentary Secretaries (CPS) over development in the state.

Thakur, while addressing a press conference here, stated that the state’s economic challenges had worsened under the current administration. He claimed the state government’s sole focus was on protecting CPS positions while essential development projects had been stalled.

Thakur said that the Sukhu-led government had failed to fulfil its election promises, specifically the guarantees made during the Assembly elections. “Congress has forgotten to implement the promises it made to the people,” he said, adding that many of the decisions being taken under the guise of economic reforms appear to be part of a larger conspiracy.

He accused the government of misusing public funds to defend its CPS appointees, though multiple court rulings declaring their appointments unconstitutional.

The former Chief Minister pointed out that the Congress government had failed to appeal against the court’s decisions and was, instead, wasting resources on defending the CPS appointments. He also criticised the government’s handling of tourism properties, alleging that it was part of a larger scheme to privatise and sell off state assets.

Thakur accused the Congress government of selling off profitable tourism hotels under the guise of financial losses, especially in popular tourist destinations like Shimla, Manali and Dharamsala. “These are profitable hotels and yet the government is pesenting them as loss-making,” he said, calling it a conspiracy to privatise the state government’s assets.

Thakur concluded by asserting that the Congress government was incompetent and unable to manage the state. He said that the people of the state must understand the true intentions behind these controversial decisions.
