Governor XI wins Sadbhavana Cup

The Governor XI clinched the Sadbhavana Cricket Cup beating Chief Justice XI by 32 runs in the final at BCS here today. Vivek Bhatia and Abid Hussain Sadiq from Governor XI were jointly declared Man of the Series.

The tournament was organised by Him Sports and Cultural Association to raise awareness against drug abuse. Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu gave away the prizes to the players at the closing ceremony today. In the three matches played in the tournament between Governor XI, Chief Justice, Chief Minister XI and Press XI, Vivek Bhatia. Abid Hussain Sadiq and Vikas Bhardwaj were given Man of the Match awards.

In the final match today, Governor XI posted an impressive total of 232 runs for the loss of two wickets in 20 overs. Vivek Bhatia played a stellar innings, remaining unbeaten at 99, while Abid Hussain contributed 82 runs. From Chief Justice XI, Subhash Rattan and Vikas Bhardwaj took one wicket each. Chasing 233, Chief Justice XI managed to score 200 runs only. Rakesh Chauhan top-scored with 86 runs, followed by Saurabh Rattan with 43, Pankaj Negi with 22, and Anuj Bali with 18. Ashok from Governor XI took two wickets to seal the victory.

While appreciating the organisers for the event, the Chief Minister said the state government was committed to fight against drug menace and was working with dedication to promote sports and improve opportunities for youth. The Chief Minister highlighted the steps being taken by the government to support athletes. The Chief Minister said that the cash awards for winning medals in the Olympics, Paralympics, Asian Games and Commonwealth Games have been enhanced significantly. The gold medal winner on Olympics and Paralympics get Rs five crore now. The CM further said that the government has raised diet money and given better travelling facilities to sportspersons.

Acting Chief Justice of Himachal Pradesh High Court, Tarlok Singh Chauhan, Assembly Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania, Revenue Minister Jagat Singh Negi, MLAs Harish Janartha, Sudarshan Babloo and Vinod Sultanpuri were also present on the closing ceremony.
